ABSTRACT

Background: We assessed the efficacy of a single dose of peginterferon lambda in preventing clinical events among acutely symptomatic COVID-19 outpatients. Method(s): We conducted a placebo-controlled, randomized, adaptive platform trial among predominantly vaccinated SARS-CoV-2-positive adults in Brazil and Canada receiving either one subcutaneous injection of peginterferon lambda or placebo. The primary composite endpoint was medical admission to hospital, defined as either observation in a COVID-19 emergency setting for > 6 hours, or transfer to a tertiary hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19 within 28 days post-randomization. Result(s): For this evaluation, 931 patients received peginterferon lambda and 1018 received placebo. 84% of the population were vaccinated and the trial occurred across multiple COVID-19 variants. In the primary analysis of patients, the primary outcome was reduced by 51% in the peginterferon lambda vs. placebo groups (relative risk 0.49 [25/916 vs 57/1003], 95% Bayesian credible interval 0.30-0.76, posterior probability >99.9%). This effect was maintained in subgroup analyses including COVID-19-related hospitalization alone (relative risk 0.57, 95% Bayesian credible intervals 0.33-0.95, ) and COVID-19-related hospitalization or death (Hazard ratio 0.59, 95% Bayesian credible interval 0.35- 0.97). The effects were consistent across dominant variants and vaccination status. Among individuals with a high viral level at baseline, peginterferon lambda resulted in lower viral loads by Day 7, compared to placebo. The incidence of adverse events was similar in the two groups. Conclusion(s): Among predominantly vaccinated outpatients with COVID-19, single-dose of peginterferon lambda resulted in significantly decreased clinical events.

ABSTRACT

During the last decades, the evolution of urban areas and the dynamism of economic activity worldwide has caused housing demands to proliferate in these areas;and therefore, there is greater growth of residential villages, businesses, and industries, generating as a consequence the decrease in outdoor spaces, intended for meetings, cultural identity, exchange, sports, among other activities, especially affecting the quality of life of third-class people, who must travel through spaces that now present certain obstacles or generate imbalances in the environment. Therefore, this research examines public spaces designed for older adults in times of Covid-19. Case: Panorama Avenue-Mexico. The latter being the sector under study. A documentary, interpretive methodology was used, based on Royal Decree 505/2007, which allowed determining the accessibility characteristics of the area under study for the elderly;obtaining;as a result, the area free of pedestrian access as well as the dimensions of the benches do not correspond to what is established in the standard. Therefore, it is recommended to develop a restructuring project for public spaces that make them more accessible to the elderly and contribute to their well-being, especially in times of pandemic.

ABSTRACT

In this present essay, I determine elements of continuity between the times in which Ivan Ilich writes his book entitled "the deschooling or unschooling" and the current planetary crisis expressed in the COVID-19 pandemic. I establish three relationships that in turn operate as categories of analysis, and as elements of historical continuity. These categories are economic crises and changes or reforms to educational systems;a second relationship is right-merchandise that I stress with the relationship right-learning;and a third relationship that refers to the role of technology as a false dichotomy between presence and virtuality. In the first section, I establish elements of context characterizing the times in which Ilich's text was written, and its relationship with the current crisis of the capital accumulation model, called neoliberalism, outlining the categories that will be analyzed. In section II, I refer to the crisis of the school. In section III, I focus on the right-commodity v / s right-learning categorical relationship. And, in the fourth and last part, I address the role of technology;both in gestation and in development and solution to crises. Finally, I ask questions about the possible death of the school and what its possible replacements could be.

ABSTRACT

The present work seeks to analyze the implications and general tensions linked by the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine in the Brazilian Amazon to the territoriality of the Carimbó as a tourist attraction in urban Belenense. The procedures for the analysis involved bibliographic and documentary surveys, monitoring of secondary data in virtual institutional networks and carimbó groups, fieldwork with a guided observation script and the semi-structured interview conducted with members of carimbó groups. The results demonstrate that the restrictions to tourist spaces and the low impact “quarantine” in terms of social isolation in Belém imply constraints to the mediators of the territoriality of the carimbó, making evident the fragility of the tourist attraction and the persistence of the intangible heritage in the city maintained by do and re-existence of groups. © 2020, Universidade de Taubate. ABSTRACT

The aim was to describe the clinical data from patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 and clinical data of patients with pneumonia by the same virus. It was selected articles on clinical data from patients with COVID-19 and pneumonia by SARS-CoV-2 in pubmed, embase and google schoolar. It was described the clinical data of patients with COVID-19 from 3 studies with 1,078 patients. The main clinical data for COVID-19 were cough 60.4%, fever 40.9%, and production of sputum 26.0%. For pneumonia by SARS-CoV-2, was described clinical data from 495 patients from 5 studies, were fever 77.4%, cough 68.9%, and myoarthralgia 49.9%. In children with COVID-19 was reported cough 48.5%, pharyngeal erythema 46,2%, and fever 41.5%. To use only clinical data to submit patients to RT-PCR test is not good, because many infected patients have not clinical data (asymptomatic carriers) or they did not reported the main clinical data as fever, cough or myoarthralgia.

ABSTRACT

Background: the number of cases of Covid-19 reached more than 11 million people in Brazil, but mostly in Caxias city (Rio de Janeiro) high death rates are very worrysome. In this scenario, homeopathy therapy, along with sanitary and therapeutic measures, should be recommended by health authorities. Aims: to evaluate the use of homeopathic complex (Bryonia alba, China officinalis and Metallum album 30cH), concerning the severity of the illness, during the coronavirus pandemic. Methodology: the complex was administrated at multiple families from Caxias, with (FW) and without (FWO) symptoms similar to COVID-19’s, therefore qualifying the project as a quasi-experimental longitudinal observational cohort study (applied in 51 families or 128 people). With this, the influence of homeopathic intervention in sick (FW) and health (FWO) groups was estimated. All volunteers used three drops of the medicine, once a day, per 60 days. The medicine was prepared accordingly to the Brazilian Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia1. The follow-up was carried out within seven days, which resulted in a total of 8 weeks, since the first interview. The data was organized and statistically analyzed with a 5% significance level, for categorical variables, by Fisher Exact test, in Excel sheet and SPSS 17.0 platform. The ethical committee approved this project under the code: CAAE 31601020.3.0000.5243. Results and Discussion: the preliminary results showed the absence of deaths in both groups (FW and FWO), without any statistically significant difference related to the severity of illness. Most of the families (98.03%) were thrilled to contribute in this particular homeopathic research and reported to have had general health symptoms’ improvements (84.31%). Despite the previous comorbidities presented in 52.9% of the families and considering that Covid-19 infected 0.020% of them, only 0.098% looked for medical assistance and none needed hospitalization. Conclusion: no differences between previous sick and health groups were detected after homeopathy intervention. © International Journal of High Dilution Research. Not for commercial purposes.
